Considered by many to be the most outstanding
Landscape Rose of the Meidiland Series. Ruby Meidiland is a profuse bloomer,
sporting abundant clusters of ruby red flowers from late spring until late fall. The
bloom color contrast nicely with its small glossy green leaves. Ruby Meidiland is
has a tight growth habit often described as mounding making it perfect for tucking in
between perennials and makes a very good ground cover or small hedge. Very easy to grow
and extremely diesease resistant.
Height: 24 - 30 inches
Habit: mounding (also makes a good ground cover)
Fragrance: mildly fragrant
Disease Resistance: Very good
Zones: 4 -10 (coldest areas of 4 may require protection)
Culture Notes: Plant in area that receives full sun, a
minimum of 5 hours of direct sun is recommended. Landscape Roses are not as fussy
about soils as many other types of roses, but will do their best in a soil that has been
amended with plenty of organic materials. (see
improving your soil for more info) While these roses are considered very heat tolerant
they do require a moderate level of moisture to really flower heavily. Water during
extended dry spells and frequently during the first 3 -4 weeks after planting. To
help conserve soil moisture it is always a good idea to apply a layer of organic mulch
such as pine bark around the base of the plant to a depth of 3 - 4 inches. Light
pruning may be required to maintain a tidier plant and deadheading faded blooms will
encourage heavier flowering. Feed at least twice during the growing season
with a combination of blood and bone meals.
