This is our most popular Oriental
Poppy. I has large, bright scarlet red flowers with jet black centers. Blooms
are very large measuring nearly 5 inches across. Brilliant is a very showy perennial and
commands attention. Flowers first start to appear in late may and continue to unfurl
through most of May. Plants grow to about 30 inches tall with an equal spread and
self-seed freely to quickly create a large colony of vivid red poppies.
Poppy 'Brilliant'
Plant in full sun and provide a rich well drained soil. Take time to get
the soil loose and amend with plenty of organic material. Fertilize in early
spring with a top dressing of compost and bone meal. Oriental Poppies are easy to
grow and will thrive for years with little to no attention from the gardener.
