We
where very excited when we heard the news of the first ever dwarf
Monarda - Petite Delight - a few years have passed and the excitement
has not went away. This wonderful Bee Balm has lavender-rose
flowers that appear on very compact mounds of dark green crinkled
foliage. As with all Monarda the hummingbirds and butterflies flock
to it all summer. Plants grow between 12 -15 inches in height
making them perfect for the front of sunny garden. Petite Delight
is a patented perennial and therefore we have a limited supply of
these wonderful plants. Get your order in early before we sell
out.
Plant in full sun and provide a rich well drained soil.
Plants can be grown in partial shade but will cause flowering to
decline. Fertilize in early spring with a top dressing of composted
manure and bone meal. Liquid feed once in the summer with
fish emulsion or a compost tea. Provide plants with extra water
during prolonged dry spells, dry soils promotes powdery mildew,
a fungal problem common in Monardas. Deadheading will promote
longer flowering. Plants spread rapidly by underground stems
and need to be divided every three years to keep them looking their
best.
