Wine red blooms that measure 3 inches across.
The center of the blossom is yellow at first and gradually changes to oxblood red. The
flowers are irresistible to butterflies, making Gaillardia Burgundy a must have for the
butterfly garden. Plants produce masses of flowers from early summer right on through to
late autumn. Plants thrive in full sun. When planted in shaded areas the foliage becomes
very leggy and to weak to hold up the flower heads. Burgundy grows to 30 inches in height
and may need some form of support to prevent heavy rains from knocking down the masses of
flower heads. Gaillardias are not fussy when it comes to soil - give them a loose well
drained spot and they will live for years. Do not enrich soil with compost or other rich
ingredients as this promotes lush, weak growth. Deadhead plants weekly to prolong
flowering period.
