Iceberg climbing rose has long
been considered to be the best white climber available to the gardening
world. Flawless, bridal-white blooms appear on plants with dark
green foliage providing a beautiful contrast for the flowers. Unlike
most other white climbers Iceberg flowers are long-lasting and hold
their color even in extreme heat. If you are looking to add an touch
of elegance to your garden this magnificent climbing rose should
be on your list.
Height: 12 - 15 feet
Habit: sprawling
Fragrance: mild honey
Disease Resistance: good
Zones: 5-10
Culture Notes: Plant in area that
receives full sun, a minimum of 5 hours of direct sun is recommended. Climbing
roses are not as fussy about soils as many other types of roses,
but will do their best in a soil that has been amended with plenty
of organic materials. (see
improving your soil for more info) While these roses are considered
very heat tolerant they do require a moderate level of moisture
to really flower heavily. Water during extended dry spells and frequently
during the first 3 -4 weeks after planting. To help conserve
soil moisture it is always a good idea to apply a layer of organic
mulch such as pine bark around the base of the plant to a depth
of 3 - 4 inches. Pruning is required to maintain a tidier plant
and deadheading faded blooms will encourage heavier flowering. Feed
at least twice during the growing season with a combination of blood
and bone meals and once in mid summer with a good organic rose fertilizer.
