A remarkable Campanula punctata introduced
from Japan that bears bright cherry-pink bells with reddish-purple spots inside the
blossom. The flower clusters are borne on erect stems making it a beautiful cut flower.
The flowers first begin to appear in late June and continue their showing through most of
September. A very strong grower, Campanula 'Cherry Bells' will spread much faster
than other Campanulas and may require some supervision to keep it within its bounds.
Plants prefer a fertile soil with a
neutral to alkaline pH. Lime can be added to the soil to obtain these
conditions. Soil should remain moist but be well drained. Cherry Bells will thrive
in either full sun or partial shade. In areas with very hot summers plants will
appreciate some evening shade and reward you with a longer flowering period and more
intense colors. After the plant has finished flowering cut back hard to encourage
strong, stocky new growth.
