Gorgeous species of Asarum that
was introduced to the gardening world in 1993. This Asian ornamental ginger is extremely
easy to grow and a bit quicker to spread than some of the other Asarums we have tried.
The dark green leathery-like leaves are evergreen down to 10 degrees,
semi-evergreen in colder areas. Each spring new growth will cover the previous years
growth. Leaves are adorned with splashes of white that look great when combined with
hostas. Asarums are not normally grown for flowers but do bloom in early
spring.
Plant in partial shade to full shade and provide a rich well drained soil.
Grows best in a slightly acidic soil. Fertilize in early spring with a top dressing
of compost and bone meal. Asarums are considered drought tolerant once established.
