An improvement on the classic single
flowering Hollyhock. Happy Lights produces very large flowers measuring nearly 5 inches
across! The mix contains shades of yellows, reds, pinks and white. We highly recommend
this variety of Hollyhocks simply because it is the most rust resistant Alcea on the
market and one of the heaviest bloomers we have ever grown. Flowering begins in early June
and the plants do not let up until late August. You will want to give this Hollyhock a
home in the back of the border because it is a big one - flower stalks reach heights of up
to 7 feet. Plant in full sun in a garden soil that has been heavily amended with
organic materials. Soil should be moist but well drained. Since this plant gets very tall
it is of course a very heavy feeder. Feed early in the spring when growth first
starts to appear with a generous top dressing of composted manure (chicken manure works
best). Continue the feeding program using a fish emulsion diluted with water applied every
three weeks.
