This long time favorite Hosta is named after
the man who introduced it to the gardening world back in the 1980's. Allen P
McConnell started this wonderful plant from seeds he obtained from the American Hosta
Society - he grew 26 seedlings and of the group one was variegated. Mildred Seaver a very
well known Hosta expert and close friend of Allen's encouraged him to introduce his newly
discovered Hosta - and we are sure glad she talked him into it. This marvelous plant
is one of the most vigorous and easy to grow Hostas on the market. Leaves range from
rounded to lance shaped and are a beautiful shade of dark green with narrow pure white
margins. Plants form tight, compact mounds and are very sun tolerant. Allen P McConnell is
our best selling Hosta, and has been for years - a true testament to the late,
beloved, plantsman who had to be coaxed into introducing it.

Hostas prefer partial to full
shade and a good rich garden soil that is moist but well drained. Moisture plays a crucial
role in growing beautiful Hosta plants - you will need to water plants during prolonged
dry spells. Feed in very early spring with a top dressing of composted manure and bone
meal. Liquid feed at least twice during the growing season with seaweed extract or
fish emulsion. For more growing instructions see our Hosta
care guide. |
